Gummy Smile Correction Case Studies with Before and After Photos
The PA Center for Dental Implants and Periodontics provides a broad range of treatment and surgical options for patients with everything from mild periodontal disease to severe periodontal disease that has resulted in tooth and bone loss. The cases presented in this photo gallery provide a glimpse of several of the complex cases that the Center has handled in recent years.

Case Study #1: George K.
Chief Concern: 62 year old male presents with significantly worn teeth due to grinding (bruxing) and is interested in improving his smile.
Treatment Received: In 2 surgical visits (upper then lower arch), crown lengthening procedures were completed to lengthen his teeth. Three months later, he was completed with individual porcelain crowns and a night guard appliance.
Case Study #2: Ryan
Chief Concern: Patient is esthetically concerned with excessive gingival display and small teeth.
Treatment Received: Gummy smile correction with placement of 8 porcelain veneers 3 months later.
Case Study #3: Ashley
Chief Concern: Unhappy with excessive gum with her four incisor teeth.
Treatment Received: Gum recontouring /crown lengthening.
Case Study #4: Blonnie
Chief Concern: Gummy smile, gingival (gum) asymmetry and tooth color.
Treatment Received: Gum recontouring/crown lengthening with porcelain veneers #3 thru 14.
Case Study #5: Pam
Chief Concern: Excessive Gummy Smile
Treatment Received: Upper gum recontouring /crown lengthening with tooth reshaping of her central incisors.
Case Study #6: Sydney
Chief Concern: Unhappy with excessive gum with her upper teeth.
Treatment Received: Upper gum recontouring /crown lengthening with Maryland Bonded Bridge to replace missing lateral incisor. When she is older this will be replaced with a single dental implant.
Case Study #7: Shannon D.
Chief Concern: 19-year old female is concerned with the looseness of her 2 upper primary canines and desires permanent single teeth. In addition, she is unhappy with her asymmetrical gummy smile.
Treatment Received: In one surgical visit, removal of her primary canines, placement of immediate implants with bone grafting and correction of her gummy smile. Fixed screw-retained temporary crowns were placed the following day and final crowns were made a few months later.
Case Study #8: Emily S.
Chief Concern: Patient presents as a 16 year old unhappy with her smile and square teeth due to excessive gingival display post-orthodontic therapy.
Treatment Received: In one surgical visit, soft and hard tissue reduction was completed for Gummy Smile correction.
Case Study #9: Aurora K.
Chief Concern: Patient is unhappy with her smile. She would like brighter and bigger teeth.
Treatment Received: Gummy smile correction was completed with crown lengthening of her upper 8 teeth with single porcelain crowns/veneers completed after 3 months of healing.
Case Study #10: Helena J.
Chief Concern: Patient presents aesthetic concerns with her upper teeth, dark gingival margins, and short teeth.
Treatment Received: In one surgical visit, osseous crown lengthening with gingival scalloping was completed on #4 through #13. Restorative therapy to replace crowns #5 through #12 was then commenced 3 months later.
