We’re So Proud of Our Maggie

Volunteering word cloudKudos to our head dental hygienist, Maggie Rutherford, who recently obtained a Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner (PHDHP) license. This special certification now means that Maggie can provide her unique services to under-served communities, without the supervision of a dentist.

“Places like group homes, Head Start, nursing homes, and correction and detention centers can all greatly benefit from visits from licensed dental hygienists,” explains Maggie. “We provide dental cleanings with a mobile dental unit as well as instructions for proper oral health maintenance and even nutritional advice.”

With the new license, Maggie hopes to expand her current “spare time” volunteer activities (at Middle Bucks Institute of Technology) to offer even more dental hygiene care to individuals who don’t have dental insurance and/or can’t afford regular dental care.  Maggie understands that there’s a great need for such care, even in many suburban areas.

“If you have the time and resources, I really encourage you to pitch in and give to the communities in which you live and work,” says Maggie.

Drs. Levine and Fava and all of us here at the Pennsylvania Center for Dental Implants and Periodontics congratulate our colleague, Maggie, on this new achievement and wish her many happy volunteer days to come!
