Benefits of LANAP® Laser Gum Surgery to Treat Gum Disease

Dr. Philip Fava Explains the Benefits of LANAP Laser Gum Surgery

VIDEO TRANSCRIPTION:

“LANAP® presents the benefit of being able to treat someone’s entire mouth in one sitting, as opposed to the more traditional forms would be normally done one quadrant at a time. Meaning, you’d have to go through the same procedure four different times in four different areas of the mouth. LANAP is a further modification of an existing procedure called ENAP. ENAP stood for excisional new attachment procedure, whereas LANAP stands for laser-assisted new attachment procedure.

The biggest change between the two of them is that the excisional form of the procedure was resective in nature, by way of excising any of the inflamed tissue. The laser-assisted attachment procedure is regenerative in nature. Whereas you are not removing tissue, instead, you’re growing tissue back. So bringing LANAP into our practice made it so that we could treat more patients more comfortably and more effectively.

The important thing to understand about periodontal disease and its relationship with the LANAP treatment is that the LANAP treatment is a very effective form of treatment. While it’s great to research what treatments are there for you, ultimately it’s the decision of an expert periodontist who can tell you what is best treating your needs.”
