During the recent dog days of summer, Dr. Fava and his girlfriend, Leigh, raced their beloved daschund Nathan (left in photo next to their other favorite dog, Sophie) in a “weenie race” to benefit the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). Dr. Fava even made it into Philly News (see photo below by Inquirer staff photographer Tom Gralish that appears online).
Doggone it—Nathan wasn’t the Top Dog! But fun was had by all in any event. A packed crowd in Manayunk took part in the fundraiser. Dogs and their owners were photographed for doggie posterity and goodies for all were handed out.
Maybe Nathan will be back next year. Maybe Sophie will find a doggie race of her own for another good cause. You never know —every dog has his/her day!
PAWS is reported to be Philly’s largest no-kill animal shelter. Want to help PAWS? Donate directly to the organization. Like they say: Every little bit helps.
