You probably already know that replacing your teeth with dental implants is the best solution to help you live a happy, healthier life. But maybe you are delaying or even avoiding considering dental implants because of a general phobia about dentists, a fear of pain, and/or a strong dislike when it comes to dental-related equipment noises, injections or even smells.
You’re not alone! A worldwide study conducted by the market research group DentaVox a few years ago concluded that 61% of respondents admitted to some sort of dental anxiety. It’s one of the aspects of our field that we take very seriously by working our hardest to ensure our patients feel safe and comfortable.
Sedation Options During Periodontal Procedures
While we normally don’t require sedatives, we recognize that some patients just won’t be comfortable with local anesthesia alone. As a result, we can offer a variety of safe and effective sedation options to alleviate your anxieties.
Oral (Conscious) Sedation
We’ll prescribe mediation you’ll take before your procedure to help you relax.
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is administered through a mask. Its benefits include the fact that it’s short-acting, there’s no “hangover” effect and it can successfully “take the edge off” your anxieties.
IV (Intravenous) Sedation
We can arrange to utilize the assistance of a dental anesthesiologist to help put you in a comfortable state during your procedure.
Remember: If your periodontist doesn’t understand your concerns, it may be time to find another periodontist. We know that dental implants are your best option to restore the appearance and functionality of your normal teeth.
If dental fears are stopping you from getting the important periodontal care you need, please contact us for a consultation. We’ll work with you to help alleviate your concerns!
